Hydroquinone Lotion

Hydroquinone lotion or cream is said by some experts to be potentially dangerous when used in large quantities. Rats have developed cancers and also kidney and liver problems but this when they were fed it. As we humans apply it to the skin the consensus of opinion is that it is safe for us to use. It has been used in some parts of the world for decades and in the western world we tend to use less of it and in lower quantities. In some countries having lighter skin is as important as having a good suntan is to westerners and therefore it is widely used throughout the world.

It is used primarily to treat freckles, acne scars, liver spots and any other skin discoloration. It is also used over large areas of the skin to fade the pigmentation or color of the skin. If it prescribed by your dermatologist then follow the instructions given by him or her and if no specific instructions were given then follow the guide on the pack.

If on the other hand you buy an over the counter cosmetic version of the cream or lotion then us as described by the manufacturer, testing it on a small area first. The thing to remember is that you are effectively bleaching your skin so care must be taken at all times when using any product containing hydroquinone.
